Ahoy all. Did some recording on Wednesday night, so hopefully you'll hear the fruits shortly. Decided to experiment with the way we recorded the drums to allow for more freedom when mixing. Usually the recording software receives one stereo track from my drum kit - the stereo mix and levels of the individual drums all having been set on the brain of the kit.
This time, James and I decided to try something different. We recorded separate tracks for the separate parts of the drum kit. This required separate takes, so I muted whatever we weren't recording and played the whole song, with only, say, the cymbals audible. Then another run through with only the bass drum audible. Then another with only the snare...and so on. Theoretically only problematic if I strayed from the tempo. If I stuck to it, everything should have slotted together nicely which, I'm pleased to say, it did. Needed re-takes on some of the fills but overall very pleased with how it went. Now we can tinker with it to our hearts' content!
Do email via the contact page should you have any questions about the recording process, or anything to do with the band, and we will get back to you.
Yours aye,
Capo.
